Кто скачет хладной мглой? Отец и сын младой. К отцу дитя приник, Его обнял старик. Во мраке мир исчез, А на пути их лес. Вознесся от земли до небес Дышит древней тайной средь тенистых крон, Средь людей известен он дурной славой. В чаще издревле стоит зеленый трон. Царь лесной всесилен, лесом правит он! Сквозь лес они летят, Проснулося дитя, Трясется все быстрей, Пугает шум ветвей! Лесной царь стоит, И взгляд его блестит, Ребенку тихо он говорит: «Мальчик мой, пленен красою я твоей! Ты запал в сердце мне, ранил мне душу! Будешь ты расти среди моих сыновей, Слушать пенье птиц и шум седых ветвей! Оглянись, мой друг! Забудь про свой испуг! Мой лес красив и богат, И в нем тебе я рад! Веселье, счастье подарю! Иди ко мне, я говорю! Иди ко мне, с того же дня, Ты будешь счастлив у меня!» «Отче, царь лесной ко мне обратился!
