| Welcome back to Mega Nasty Rich we're talking about following your passion I mean that's what you hear every single day a speaker comes in they talk to you and say you need to do great things they get you fired up and what is that billionaire said to you at the end they say follow your passion well when I look at I ask myself did that person follow their passion did they follow their passion into waste management I don't think so I think instead what happened is they followed their skill set which led them to making money which they're very passionate about making money their passion about the things money makes them so the idea that you should follow your passion is kind of deluded and it's not true to what you think those words mean so the first thing is follow your passions ally it's not a truce what you need to follow instead is your skill set and you'll find this out by talking to your friends and family one of my best at they may say oh you're great at talking to people your great given advice you're great at at and boiling down numbers you're able to do the family's finances like nobody else does in that case maybe your skill set and your future passion will be in accounting maybe if you're good at talking to other people your passion could be. Maybe sales maybe it's an attorney things you'll learn along the way but the thing is you're not gonna be able to follow your your passion which is patent kittens or your passion which is rafting the Rocky Mountains that's not gonna happen and that's a lie that's been told yourself to lead you down the wrong path and whose it was so on those lines the mega billionaire that's already live their life and in no way followed their passion it is very rare that someone gets to do the coolest thing ever and get paid for it I'm getting paid to do this and maybe that's for my passion but in the end I had to do this is something that I had to grab on to because my insides would let me do anything else because at the end of the day I had to talk my talker and this is my passion yes but the form this skill of talking found its way to you is through the microphone it's through the audio and along the way this wasn't possible I wasn't always able to do this but eventually the record companies came to recognize that audio is not about music but about talking as well and so here I am with my passion so follow your skill set now I also want to say something is very important when you start a job may not be passion about it you may not feel you're very skilled at it at the very beginning I'm asking you to give that job 3 months I don't like to see people quit 3 months unless you're fired don't quit 3 months the first month you're just kind of adopting to the water when you first jump in a company you have to adopt to the water and kind of figure out what's going on who's who lay low kind of figure things out the second month you're kind of getting your skill set your third month you kind of figured out how things operate you understand if you actually fit into the company if you're bailing on the first week you know nothing about the company all you're doing is running based on instinct and in your instincts rarely serve you well at the beginning of a company because you don't have enough information your instincts. To be correct so I challenge you if you're gonna get to the end and find your passion you're gonna have to muscle through the first 3 months so once you get through those first 3 months you kind of have a feeling for how the atmosphere and how the the things are gonna work day to day with that company now what if you ride it for a little while and you come to an end and you say listen Paul Taylor I'm done with this job I'm gonna ask you one more time going extra month just fight one more extra month of that company and after that month if you go this is absolutely not what I want to do feel free to move on start looking for another job the reason I say that is sometimes when you get to the point you don't care anymore when you're like you know this is not where I'm supposed to be you relax you relax in the air and you care less about what the the marketing team saying about you care less about the head of sales saying you care less when the engineering department says something really stupid at a meeting you you let all go let go of that and during that time you build momentum once you let go of that I care as much about what people say about me only care about what the product I'm putting out and once you go into that zone in that month sometimes you shoot up so fast that everybody recognizes it and a lot of times during that month suddenly they're gonna knock on your door and you're gonna get a race and you and I know it's rare but they come to you and say Hey listen we're thinking about moving you here we're thinking about moving you up or we want you to apply to move up which is the lovely world we live in where you apply in your own company to move up very strange world not created by generation X. but we created by baby boomers regardless that you're recognized for your skill and that's where you're going to see very often when people get ready to move out the door all of a sudden offers come in because during that time the I don't care anymore suddenly speeds up productivity so it's it speeds up you getting directly to the point you need to get to and say what you need to say to get things done so I ask you when it comes time to the lead pack it up and leave that month given one more month and you should always. Have a job lined up and in that job you should also make sure you have cleared the background check before you tell your current job goodbye but I'm okay in the world for moving on I'm okay with you going interviewing another job and saying Hey listen this other job was going to give me 50 more 0 more $0 you need to match that and if your company doesn't match you move on but as long the way first you give the first 3 months and see if you fit the company then once you're tired you believe this may not be the spot you give it one more month and then start looking for a job all right go out there take on the world and get mega nasty rich. |
